High-Intensity Interval Training is a form of interval training comprising of short bursts of intense anaerobic activity, which means that you are working at around 80-90% effort level, followed by a brief recovery period at around 50%. This cycle is then repeated a number of times with varying exercises for a period of around 20 minutes.
Due to the intensity level of HIIT it is said that the body burns more calories, both during a HIIT workout and also in the recovery period. The benefit of this increased metabolic rate can last up to 72 hours after the period of activity.
